Meet Rachel!

In January 2020 Rachel and her three children were in a domestic violence situation.
After bouncing from house to house they arrived at Community House in July of 2021.

Rachel struggled with her own social anxiety that made it difficult to first adapt at Community House. The thing she found most comforting was the staff that were there everyday offering love and support to both her and her children.

The structure that Community House instilled with her children by offering Mental Health Services, Case Managers, and a Housing Specialist helped her work towards different goals.

Before arriving at Community House, Rachel lived each day in survival mode as a single mother. She never had time to make goals and follow them because she was trying to get by day to day.
The structure and support at the shelter made more of a difference in her life than she can describe. It’s also helped her parent her children differently with patience and ease.

Rachel and her three children stayed at the shelter for 245 days and she is thankful for every single one of those days.

Today both her and her three children are living in a three bedroom apartment as well as continuing services.

She stated that although the staff are there because it’s their jobs, she has never felt like that’s all that it was to them.

When she was sad, she felt they would hurt for her. When she was happy, they never failed to celebrate those good days with her.
Rachel has never in her whole life had that kind of genuine love and support from multiple people. It’s to this day change the way she loves and trusts.

“The best decision I’ve ever made was to walk through the door at Community House.”

-Rachel
