Meet Frances!

My name is Frances. I came to Community House Extended Support Services (CHESS) on November 22nd, 2023. My husband had recently passed away, and my family wasn’t willing to help care for me. I was heartbroken, terrified, and didn’t think I would have anywhere to go for the first time in my life. Luckily, my caregiving agency told me about CHESS, and I was able to get in right away! I had never heard of CHESS, and didn’t know what it was. I thought it would just be a place to stay with food, water, and a bed. I didn’t realize how much more they would be helping me with! I felt like I had been blessed. Every staff member was so nice and helpful. My mental health counselor helped me process my husband’s passing, and with the emotions I was dealing with from the lack of support from my family. The front desk staff helped me with day to day challenges, and my case manager and peer support counselor always went above and beyond, making sure I was protected, and always having my best interests at heart. It became my home and my family. My housing specialist and I worked together and she got me into my own place! I was sad to leave my home and family at CHESS, but was so incredibly grateful to have a place to call my own! I am so happy in my new place, and grateful to everyone at CHESS. I couldn’t have done it without them. I still stop by CHESS from time to time to say hi, and everyone greets me with open arms and hearts. It changed my life, and could yours too! - Frances
