Meet Estebon!

Hello My name is Estebon.

I had spent many years in jails and institutions due to my addiction. I got released from jail for the last time and had no idea where I was going or what I was going to do. One thing I was certain of I did not want to return to isolation in active addiction, gang activity and constantly playing Russian roulette with my life. I was worn out and tired of the life I was living. I kept myself isolated away from the people that loved me. I pushed myself away from them because of the shame and guilt I had felt from the way I was living. Somebody told me about the Community house on Broadway to be honest I was apprehensive because I was struggling with my pride and having to admit I needed help. I chose to humble myself because I wanted something more for my life. I knew there was more out there for me and I was worthy of happiness and freedom from the chains of addiction. I was giving an intake and welcomed by everyone which eased my anxiety. I jumped right into services when I got to the Community House and it literally changed my life! The staff at the Community House are amazing, and helped me grow into a productive member of society. My case manager helped show me how to budget and save money, Mental Health is always available even when I don’t have an appointment, my peer Chris helped me study and get my Driver’s License. I would have never done it without him. He has also helped me heal my past traumas through letter writing. SUD has given me the tools to help me identify my triggers to help prevent me from relapsing, and come up with solutions for my triggers. Supportive Employment has helped me get a job. Nikkea educated me about my job, which has helped me in obtaining my Forklift Certification, and now I’m in a lead position. Supportive Housing has assisted me in finding resources that will help get me housed, and has also informed me about the different types of housing options. They have also helped me find ways to save and manage my money. I have never come this far in such a short amount of time. I didn’t know how to live a normal life, and now I do thanks to the staff at the Community House.
