Meet Cheryl!

Meet Cheryl!

My name is Cheryl. I am a 47 year old single mother of six amazing children. I was born in Oregon and raised in California.
I come from a huge extended family where addiction and alcoholism has run rampant among us. Out of my grandmother's kids 10 out of 12 of them died from drugs and alcohol, including my father.

At age 9 I started using drugs to cope and by the age of 14 I had kids and by the age of 19 I went to prison.

I have been in and out of Juvenile Hall, Rehab, and Prison my whole life. In 2014 my children were taken from me for 11 months and that was the most humbling experience of my life.
I stayed clean for almost two years and relapsed after a bad relationship went wrong. I ended up coming to Community House to run from my addiction, a bad relationship, and CPS.
I was literally dying from complications of addiction, was in an abusive relationship, and CPS was fixing to take my kids away. God has used Community House to save my life.

I have been here for 10 months and my life has changed so dramatically. I have never seen or heard of anything like this place ever. They help you in every area of life. Addiction, Mental Health, Employment, Housing, Childcare and structure. I really don't have the words to express the gratitude I feel. The staff are the most amazing people. You can tell how much they care. I want to give a shout out to Pamela Hite whom I've had the pleasure of working under in the kitchen. She has been an amazing supervisor. I will be forever connected to this place.

I am now in college at LCC on the President's Honor Roll and just became a certified welder. I have the most beautiful relationship with my children. I would not trade it for the world. But most importantly I am regaining my relationship with God.

Thank you for being a part of my recovery!

-Cheryl
